DYING HARD IN THE BIG EASY
---- Storyline
Darryl “Lemon Boy” Phillips, owner of Paladin Security, provides VIP protection and crowd management at public events such as concerts. The Lemon Boy tag is from childhood. Growing up in East St. Louis, Illinois, the neighborhood kids thought his light complexion and light freckles worthy of a title as well as ridicule.
Lemon Boy has carved quite a niche for himself, providing security at many national events.
That’s how Lola Montclaire literally strolled back into his life.
Lola was experiencing a resurgence in her singing career thanks to her nephew, a young rapper named TruLuv, who sampled Lola’s 80’s hit, “Speak Your Mind” in his song by the same name. Lola has chosen her old lover, Lemon Boy, to provide security for a New Orleans concert.
In The Big Easy, local celebrity and bluesman, Blind Billy Brown is putting on a block party and concert right in the middle of his Ninth Ward neighborhood, and he is calling on several Old School singers and musicians to come home, including Lola and the new sensation TruLuv, but it wouldn’t be N’awlins without controversy.
First Billy’s block party is taking place the same weekend as the famous New Orleans Jazz Revival. Secondly, the lead act at the Jazz Revival is TruLuv's enemy, MC “OOO-WEE,” a gangsta’ rapper whose music is only overshadowed by his over the stop public displays of drunkenness and violence.
Then OOO-WEE was found in the bed of his New Orleans hotel room with his throat sliced open. His girlfriend, Alexis, was found dead as well, floating in the Mississippi River.
Who killed MC “OOO-WEE and Alexis?”
Blind Billy Brown used to own a straight razor. He lost it in the chest of the nameless, faceless looters who terrorized him and others trying to rebuild on their own in the lower Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina.
Was it TruLuv and Lola who were seen threatening “OOOWEE” at knife point at a local bar when his entourage tried to intimidate them?
All the evidence seems to point to someone from Blind Billy’s block party, and the police of New Orleans are eager to make an arrest. They don’t care who.
Lemon Boy can’t let that happen. With the help of his staff, Terri Lovejoy, Bobby Farr Sr. and Bobby Jr, he will use all his detective skills to solve the case of :
